As a select board, school board member, and member of the Windham Solid Waste Management District, Dave has demonstrated his ability to implement creative solutions to address some of our district’s biggest challenges.  He is always looking for savings and revenue sources to assure continuing quality services at the lowest possible cost.  Along with careful analysis of budgets and several proposals for reductions that did not reduce services, Dave promoted and led innovative efforts to:

  • reduce electricity costs for Brattleboro Town Schools to by  contracting for  the development of a new 500kw solar array
  • complete a thorough examination of costs of Waste District services to enable towns to accurately evaluate the services they get and to assure town assessments are fair
  • reduce energy costs by converting old oil boilers to modern wood pellet boilers
  • perform energy audits in school and town buildings to determine how much could be saved through conservation efforts
  • support recommendations of the Town Energy Committee for future improvements that reduce energy costs and consumption.
  • develop a program-based budget for Town services to make sure we are spending time and resources on the on the things that are most important to us
  • extend the financing of the Brattleboro Police/Fire project over several years to even out the tax impact
  • compare the cost savings from investing in energy saving systems over the long term to the immediate savings from less expensive options when building or upgrading systems
  • increase the number and frequency of public forums on important issues facing the community
