When Dave was asked to join the local Farm-to-School committee, he jumped at the opportunity. He actively promoted expanding school gardens across the county, and successfully advocated for school board support for the coordinator position. School gardens now exist at most of the schools in the county.
He also promoted the “Vegetable of the Week” program to bring farmers and fresh local vegetables into the schools. This has led to a significant growth in the quantity of local produce in school meals and contributed to the development of a fresh produce distribution system.
As select board member, Dave advocated for continuing the tax reduction for active farm land in the Town and maintaining the loan fund for local farmers.
As manager, board member, officer, and now vendor at the Brattleboro Farmers’ Market, Dave continues to actively promote local agriculture.
